Fix iTunes error 3194,1015,1004 for iOS 4.3.2 4.3.1 4.3 4.2.1
The tutorial will show you how to fix the common iTunes errors 3194, 1015, 1004 while you’re trying to upload a custom jailbroken firmware to your apple device. You can do that by temporarily blocking Apple’s firmware signing services. Error 3194, 1015, 1004 seems to be triggered when unsigned firmware is used, often during an iOS downgrade or even during some restores like restoring your apple device firmware to a custom jailbroken firmware.
- Exit iTunes
- Locate your hosts file:
- In Mac OS X /etc/hosts
- In Windows c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
- Open the hosts file with Administrator privileges using Notepad.
- Add the following lines to the very bottom of the hosts file:
- 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
- Connect your device to the computer
- Launch iTunes
- Put device into DFU Mode by turning your device off and then holding down the sleep and power button for 10 seconds, then release the power button but hold onto the home button until iTunes tells you that the device is now in recover mode
- Press and hold the “Shift” Key then click on “Restore” in iTunes then browse for the iOS firmware you want to restore to your device.
- Now wait until iTunes restores your device.
- At some point iTunes might through 1015 error or 1004 error just ignore it as as the firmware has already been successfully installed on the device.
- Your device might get stuck in recovery mode showing “Connect to iTunes” screen, to exit recovery mode download this small program called TinyUmbrella for windows or mac.
- Launch the TinyUmbrella then click on “Kick Device Out of Recovery” button. Your device will now restart normally.

When the iPhone is in DFU mode and I do restore error 1015 comes up and I follow the steps and ignore it, then use tinyumbrella to kick it out of recovery mode. When I try with the iPhone onthen error 21 comes up. I have followed every step but, it still jailbroken. Please Help! This is when I.O.S 6.0.0 came out.

i saw your video and added the following lines:
#localhost name resolution is handled within DWS itself
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost
However, im still unable to restore. theres always the error 3194. and ive tried to do it for almost 4 hours. i followed the procedures youve stated but nothing works. itunes kept stating the same 3194 error over. it restrict me from clicking “restore” and even “update”.
i even went to delete my cydia in my ipod . nothing works still.
can you help me ??
my host file had 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com even before i wanted to add it into the host file
then remove it and try again

i have iphone 2g and i could not updated my phone after restore. The message shown that the unknown error 1015. this set has audio problem also. It this problem interpreting while updating new software. I also want to know that which higher IOS software can be download to iphone 2g. Kindly help me.

Put your device in DFU mode and connect it to iTunes and update/restore it through iTunes .. for iPhone 2G its 3.1.3
umm… im stuck at like step one… i cannot find the windows file to add that “Add the following lines to the very bottom of the hosts file:
74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com” step…. my comp cannot find the file…
Try to to update your iTunes to the latest one or install a fresh copy then look for the hosts file as instructed above.

IF you don’t have the SHSH blob for 5.0.1 saved on your iPhone you will not be able to upgrade to it since there is a newer iOS version now.
My phone is in recovery mode and not coming out of it. It is IOS 4.2.1 Modem Firmware 06:15:00, oPhone 3G.
I tried to restore with custom firmware. It ends with 1015 error. At this point I tried to use tinyumbrella. But unfortunately tinyumbrella does not detect my device. It use to detect earlier. Not sure what is wrong now.

Most likely thats because this is a tethered jailbreak and you need to the run the jailbreak software and connect your device to the computer to boot in the jailbreak status every time your device restarts.

Please help. I tried jailbreaking my phone but got it stuck in recovery mode. I have tried tiny umbrella and changing the host file but neither have worked. When trying to save the host file i receive a message that the file path is incorrect. I even tried fix recovery and the phone responds to it but goes right back to the plug into itunes screen. I dont know what else to do. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hello there, I’ve this problem 3194, i followed exactly the video the first time in itunes, after restore (ipad 1jb 4.2.1) with ipsw os 5.0.1 i got error code 12, next stap i removed host numbers in file and itunes got problem 3194 again! now i tried ipsw 4.2.1 and it wont recover at all, not with 4.2.1 and not with 5.0.1 what should i do right now? Please help

I have iphone 3GS comes with officially locked(now running on ios 4.1/ipad bb). I have ios 4.1 shsh blobs and ios 4.3.3 shsh blobs becasue i got this phone with ios 4.3.3 and the service technician from my country downgraded to ios 4.1 and make it jailbreak and unlock.Now ios 5.0.1 is out. I would like to upgrade ios 4.1 to ios 4.3.3. Can I? I tried before but failed and ends with error 1015 and can’t kick out of recovery mode using tiny umbrella. I thought that i can upgrade to ios 4.3.3 because i have ios 4.3.3 shsh blobs saved but wrong.Is it possible to upgrade ios 4.3.3 from ios 4.1 even though lateest ios version(now ios 5.0.1)is out? If there is a way, pls help to upgrade my phone. If impossible, let it be.

You should be able to if you have saved the SHSH blob you just need to select the 4.3.3 from the Tiny Umbrella list.
I am sure I have 4.3.3 shsh blobs saved becasue cydia shows that I have ios 4.1 and ios 4.3.3 shsh blobs saved when I run cydia application. I also saved those shsh blobs manually on my computer using tiny umbrella. I always ends with error 1015 every time I tried to upgrade my phone ios 4.1 to ios 4.3.3 and can’t kick out of recovey mode using tiny umbrella. Please let me know how I can solve error 1015 if I try to upgrade ios 4.1 to ios 4.3.3 and meet error 1015. At last I always put back to restore ios 4.1. I would like to mention one thing that when I restore to ios 4.1 alos, I got error 1015 but I can kick this mode with tiny . For ios 4.3.3, I can’t. Please give me the other way if u have.

ANYWAY I TRYED TO DOWNGRADE TO 4.1/4.0.1 BUT I GOT THE ERROR 3194…. I DID THE HOSTS MODIFICATION RUNNING CMD.EXE AS ADMINISTRATOR AND THE ERROR 3194 CAME BACK AGAIN. AFTER THAT I USED TINYUMBRELLA AND IT DID NOT WORK…. ANY OTHER IDEAS????

error 1005 came up! and i freaked out!! didnt know the patching was done already, just had to kick it out of recovery using tiny umb! THANKS!! <3
i have solved the 3194 error but the 1013 error popped up and put my device on DFU mode. i tried fixrecovery and tinyumbrella but it wouldnt kick out of DFU mode.

Hi admin. i have a problem which my iphone 3gs is black screen only [after use ireb]and the serial number was not found in itunes and tiny umbrella.
i use tiny umbrella before cause i have alrady add host 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com [with # and without] in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc is doesn’t work to fix problem error 3194
and i use iREB too, to fix error 1600 and 1604
but still it cant restore it keep saying (the iphone iphone could not be restore.An unknown error occurred 1015). how i can kick out from device in tiny umbrella and use loop mode to fix problem 1015 in iREB if my iphone device is not detected in tiny umbrella. plizzz help me…

When you use iReb what it does it basically puts your iPhone in DFU mode which will give you a black screen, in this case it should be recognized by tinyumbrella. Please check out the following posts:
