Get out of Recovery Mode in iPhone, iPad, iPod Touh, Exit Recovery Mode

This tutorial will show you how to exit recovery mode in case you get stuck in that loop for any reason, this will work for the following device (windows or mac):

      1. Exit Recovery mode for iPhone 4
      2. Exit Recovery mode for iPhone 3GS
      3. Exit Recovery mode for iPhone 3G
      4. Exit Recovery mode for iPad 1
      5. Exit Recovery mode for iPad 2
      6. Exit Recovery mode for iPod Touch 4G/3G/2G/1G
First thing you will need to do is to download the following files:
Now just follow the steps below:
  1. Create a new folder name it anything you like and save both files downloaded earlier in this folder.
  2. Unzip both files (Right click on the file and extract).
  3. Launch iTunes and plug your iPhone into your computer.
  4. Put your iPhone in DFU mode following the steps below:
      • Hold down the Home+Power button simultaneously for 10 seconds.
      • After 10 seconds, release the Power button but keep holding the Home button until iTunes detects your iPhone into DFU mode.
      • Do not close iTunes. Let it run in the background.
  5. Launch fixrecovery43.exe and just wait for it get your iPhone out of recovery mode.Make sure you have an active internet connection because fix recovery will be needing to fetch DFU and firmware image from Apple servers.

    iPhone 4
    Was updating to iOS 6
Have downloaded files and ran fixrecovery43
Claims device must be in DFU mode to continue, though I followed your listed steps.
Neither iPhone or iTunes shows any difference between original recovery screen and ‘dfu’ screen, so clearly I didn’t get there.
    Any advice?

            or

  11. Daniel Issel says:

Hi guys i have a really big problem. I bought an iphone 3 from this guy and he had already jailbroken it because i saw cydia, now my problem was that his firmware was really old, he was working on iOS3.1.3 and that kinda irritated me i wanted newer firmware iOS5.1.1. so i thought maybe it wouldnt work to try and update it because its jailbroken so i decided to go to the settings and reset and erase all content. i did this and upon reboot the device froze on the apple logo. that was a problem. i googled how to fix it and i saw how to restore it from here getting into recovery mode and then restoring with itunes. the restore was giving me iOS 4.2.1, it downloads and goes through all those processes and the it just fails and gives an error 1015. now the screen of my iphone shows that usb cord connecting to the itunes sign. what do i do and how do i do it? please email me asap its so urgent! daniel.issel@gmail.com

I followed the steps above. The cmd window automatically closes after some seconds of ‘work’, says it’s unable to find the device. iTunes also closes at the same time.

When I re-download the firmware 5.1.1 and open it, it doesn’t do anything.

My computer and iTunes won’t detect my iPod unless it’s in DFU mode, and when I try to restore it again and again I get the same error. 20. Tom says:

    Hi Support Team,
I have an iPhone 3GS, which is stuck in recovery mode. It’s not my phone, rather one a friend asked me to try and fix, so I’ve no idea if he’s jail-broken it or put it through the washing machine or what.
I don’t know what OS is presently loaded on it.
I’ve been trying to update it to the latest OS via iTunes, but I get a persistent error: -1.

From what I can gather this may mean the hardware is physically damaged. Is there any way to be sure this is the cause?
I’d hate to ditch a salvable phone.

    Thanks!

Put your device in DFU mode, connect it to iTunes and update/restore your device to the latest iOS version.

after the cmd windows disappears, if i disconnect the device or not from the USB, it appears a message on the device that says:

AppleEmbeddedUSBArbitrator::_usbCableTypeNotificationGated : cableType has not changed

hi, and thanks for the info. my iphone4 went into recovery mode today for no reason when I connected it to my home computer to back it up here for the first time. I have about 5000 photos of my kid on here, some of which are backed up on another (work) computer, but not nearly all of them as it’s been some time. I did what you listed on here, and I’m not a very tech savvy guy, but it seemed to go through as you said it would, except my phone is sitting here with a black screen and a ton of white text on it. I’ve tried it three times now, and this is what happens each time. should I just wait longer? (I’ve waited over 5 minutes to see if it changes and it doesn’t) any help is appreciated, as I’m kind of stuck in a rough spot here. thanks… (my phone is not jailbroken or anything, and I use windows on my home and work computer)

      **update to my earlier post**

I let it sit for about 10 more minutes and the iphone screen went through a cycling of text, and then the itunes/recovery screen came back. I’m wondering if I screwed it up by trying to “reboot” it (holding down both buttons) after the first attempt and about 5 minutes of waiting (I had assumed at that point that it wasn’t working). any ideas? I really appreciate any help, as I’m stuck…and really want these photos of my daughter; but need my phone for the work week that starts tomorrow morning… thanks.

Try to connect your device to iTunes and see if you can back it up, then after you do that restore/update your device to the latest iOS.

  45. muku says:

I’m getting the message that Zlib1.dll is missing but I downloaded it and followed your steps…wat should I do?

    • muku says:

that has been solved, now its in dfu mode but say ituneshelper.exe not found,

      • Support Team says:

Launch fixrecovery43.exe and place your iDevice in DFU mode by using the instructions below:
Hold down the Home+Power button for 10 seconds.
After 10 seconds, release the Power button but keep holding the Home button.
Your iDevice should be in DFU mode. Now leave the rest on TinyUmbrella (Fix Recovery). Once you see Exiting libpois0n in DOS window, you may disconnect your iDevice from your computer as the rest of the code will run on your iDevice.

        • Vinicius says:

When I launch iTunes and plug my iPhone it appears a message saying that the iPhone is on recovery mode and needs to be restored. Then I put it in DFU mode and I launch fixrecovery.43 and says: ERROR: ituneshelper.exe not found. But the process continues in the DOS windowns but don’t work. What can I do?

          • Support Team says:

Updating or restoring your device will get you out of recovery mode.
