iPhone 4
Was updating to iOS 6
Have downloaded files and ran fixrecovery43
Claims device must be in DFU mode to continue, though I followed your listed steps.
Neither iPhone or iTunes shows any difference between original recovery screen and ‘dfu’ screen, so clearly I didn’t get there.
Any advice?
Here is how you can put your iphone in DFU mode.
fixrecovery43.exe where do I run this from? I have a 2nd generation ipod and i got as far as the DFU mode but i dont know where the fixrecovery43.exe file is. do I have to get that file from somewhere else?
you will need to run it from your computer.
i got as far as after it went through everything it just shut down, everthing closed out, and it went right back into recovery mode.. and then on the i pod it showed a bunch of codes and at the end it said “giving up”…. idk what that means but now my i pod isnt doint anything. any more ideas?
I followed the instructions and when I launch fix recovery the terminal window flashes and itunes closes down. Nothing happens.
What is your device mode, and iOS version please?
Ipad2 is 4.3.3 in DFU mode and trying to unlock from PC with latest itunes.
You need to update it to the latest iOS firmware version
I was mistaken it already is the latest ios firmware. It is my daughters ipad and she updated already.
If you are still in recover mode then you will need to restore your device to the same IPSW file that was downloaded by your daughter at the first update itunes will save it on your computer:
C:\Users\Your Account Name\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
or
%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
I have an iphone 4 and i upgraded to ios 6 and I am trying to down grade back to ios 5.1.1 so i can get an unteathered jailbreak but im in revovery mode and i do the revovery thing from tiny umbrella and it will run the my phone will be a white screen and it will stop running the recovery and then it just tells me its in revovery mode
You will not be able to downgrade unless you have saved the SHSH blob for 5.1.1 before the upgrade
My iPhone 4 connects to itunes in recovery mode but will neither restore (error 3194) nor will the screen display anything at all. Any ideas anybody?
Try to update it instead of restoring it.
my phone is in the recovery mode and it cannot be restored. anytime i try to restore it, it tries for sometime and i see and error -1 message. please help me out.

Trying removing iTunes completely from your computer. Restart your computer then install a fresh copy of iTunes and try again.

I did run fixrecovery but it closes when i put my phone into DFU mode! And my phone doesn’t reboot at all!
What is your device model, iOS version and what is it you were trying to do?
Hi. I downloaded both items and put both of them into a folder but every time i try to run recovery43 it says Zlib1.dll is missing from my computer. idk what to do?
It should work try to create a folder on the desktop

Ive got an ipad 1 that I have tried restoring tons of times and get error 9 seems like it is hardware and Im screwed, is there anything else I can do?
Check out the following link please: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3668993?start=0&tstart=0
Hi guys i have a really big problem. I bought an iphone 3 from this guy and he had already jailbroken it because i saw cydia, now my problem was that his firmware was really old, he was working on iOS3.1.3 and that kinda irritated me i wanted newer firmware iOS5.1.1. so i thought maybe it wouldnt work to try and update it because its jailbroken so i decided to go to the settings and reset and erase all content. i did this and upon reboot the device froze on the apple logo. that was a problem. i googled how to fix it and i saw how to restore it from here getting into recovery mode and then restoring with itunes. the restore was giving me iOS 4.2.1, it downloads and goes through all those processes and the it just fails and gives an error 1015. now the screen of my iphone shows that usb cord connecting to the itunes sign. what do i do and how do i do it? please email me asap its so urgent! daniel.issel@gmail.com
Do you know what was the modem firmware version (baseband) and is this an iPhone 3G, 3GS or iPhone 4?
Did you solve your problem? I have the same one. Please let me know how if you did.
I need to know where to put the zlib1.dll as recovery34 says it can not run because it can not find the file.
You can create a folder in your desktop and then save both files in this folder.
Device: iPhone 3GS 16GB
iOS: the latest (5.1.1?)
using Windows computer
My phone won’t boot, except when I connect it to a wall socket, but then it will show ‘activation required’
I followed the steps above. The cmd window automatically closes after some seconds of ‘work’, says it’s unable to find the device. iTunes also closes at the same time.
When I re-download the firmware 5.1.1 and open it, it doesn’t do anything.
Try to restore to he IPSW file 5.1.1 that was downloaded by itunes at the time of the first update.
I have a 3g iphone with ios 3.1.2 and jailbroken
it was working sort of fine and then it shut down by itself and didn’t charge after that i tried to charge some times and then did charge but didn’t turn on and stuck on apple logo
what can i do to not lose my files on it
i started the system restore process and then i shut it down in like 30 secs by closing the the itunes and unplug the phone
i don’t know what jailbreak is used coz i’m not the one who did it and it was working for about 6 months since last jailbreak done
Update it to 4.2.1
but is this gonna remove all my files on it ??
Back up your device first.
it is not turning on and stuck on apple logo
is there any way i can back it up in this situation ???
Try to put it in DFU mode.
Ok, I did you what you said on your instructions. It says ituneshelper could not be found but it still ran the program… the command prompt closed and then my iphone shows a white screen… nothing happens after 5 long minutes
I was just hoping to get out of this recovery mode loop as I could not restore it to 5.1.1 due to a 21 or 1012ish error.
I have a 5.0.1 with 5.13.04 baseband.
Ok, now I was able to see some activity on the iphone screen… now it shows error, no successful firmware download after 60000 ms!! Giving up… and it’s stuck there.
Why not update to 5.1.1
I Have an iphone 3gs running 5.0.1 stuck in recovery mode, went through all the steps and got “AppleBCMWLAN::handleIOKitBusyWatchdogTimeout(): Error, no succesful firmware download after 60000 ms!! Giving up…” at the end of it, and the phone is still stuck in recovery mode. any ideas?
Update to 5.1.1
hI support team, i updated my jailbroken ipod touch 3g today, and after it updated its stuck in the recovery mode. i tried the steps above and when i open the fixrecovery 43 it just open and closes after a few secs. i opened itunes in the background and my itouch is in dfu mode. any suggestion to fix it>>
Look for the IPSW file that was downloaded by iTunes on your computer when you updated your device and restore your iPod using it.
Hey. I currently have an iPad 2 running on the latest firmware. it is jailbroken with absinthe 2.0.4 – uglier when i was trying to jailbreak an iPod touch with limera1n, i looked at my iPad and it was in recovery mode. now i cannot get out. I plugged it into the computer and it would not let me restore. I am on a mac. Please reply and help me! THanks
Put it in DFU mode and restore it to the iOS that was downloaded by your iTunes at the time of the initial update.
Ok so my iPod Touch 3Gen has been stuck in recovery mode after trying to update it to the latest iOS, I tried restoring it but all I get is error 1602. My computer and iTunes won’t detect my iPod unless it’s in DFU mode, and when I try to restore it again and again I get the same error. My iPod was jailbroken when I tried updating it as I wanted to remove the jailbreak. When I tried to update my iPod had the iOs 4.2.1 firmware. Please what do I do
Put it in DFU mode and then UPDATE instead of restore
Hi Support Team,
I have an iPhone 3GS, which is stuck in recovery mode. It’s not my phone, rather one a friend asked me to try and fix, so I’ve no idea if he’s jail-broken it or put it through the washing machine or what.
I don’t know what OS is presently loaded on it.
I’ve been trying to update it to the latest OS via iTunes, but I get a persistent error: -1.
From what I can gather this may mean the hardware is physically damaged. Is there any way to be sure this is the cause?
I’d hate to ditch a salvable phone.
Thanks!
Update it to the latest iOS version
Thanks for the guidance. When I try to update with iTunes, it recognizes the phone is in DFU mode. I select “Restore and Update” and the update goes fine about 95% of the way. But it fails and gives me an error in the last few millimeters of the progress bar
Error message “The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1015).”
What your modem firmware version (baseband)?
My phone is stuck in recovery mode. I’m trying to get it out of recovery mode to be able to get my pictures and music off of it. I went through the steps and when the Cmd window closes. The last thing that appears on my phone is “IOSDIOController: : enumerateSlot (): Searching for SDIO device in slot: 0″ That’s where it is at. My phone is an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.
Also, previously when trying to restore through iTunes error 1 and error 3194 had popped up.
Are you able to back it up through iTunes? if you can then do so and restore it to the same IPSW file that was downloaded by iTunes the last time you did the update.
Also I am awaiting the unlock from at&t so i cant upgrade to any ios 5 as till that time i wont be able to use my phone.
There is a Factory Unlock Solution for all AT&T iPhones but its a bit pricy.
My iPhone4, ios 4.2.1, baseband 2.10.04. was trying to deactivate jailbreak to sustain my untetthered jailbreak after factory unlock. I did it succesfully but am stuck in recovery mode as i did not remove my passcode lock. Now the itunes says that i need to enter the passcode in the phone itself. But the phone is in recovery mode and i can only make emergency calls?? Kindly help!!!
You can update it to 5.1.1 and then do untethered jailbreak again on it
After running the whole process, goes back to the recovery, have ran the process on windows and mac, it is on 4.3.5 jailbreaked, after removing sam it went to this situation.
You will need to update your device to the latest iOS version
I have an iphone 3gs stuck in recovery mode it is not jailbroken. However my home button does not work, i have enabled the accessabilty touch option inorder to still have a functioning phone. I am using IOS 5.1.1 and also downloaded as described fixrecovery43.exe yet cant use it because i cant press the home and power key in sync. is there any more options avaliable?
Use the following method to put your device in DFU and then restore your device through iTunes to 5.1.1 that was downloaded by itunes originally when you update your device the first time.
http://unlocker.ws/blog/iphone-how-to/how-to-put-iphone-in-dfu-mode

What is your device model, iOS version and what is it you were trying to do to begin with?
I was trying to restore it and i have an iphone 4 on 5.1.1
Try to restore again but do it using the IPSW file 5.1.1 that was downloaded by iTunes when you did the initial update
I can’t restore it because itunes doesn’t detect it. I tried DFU mode but still nothing.
The problem was that my computer had problems downloading drivers. I used a different computer and it is restoring.
same thing is happening to me. i have a jailbroken iphone 4 that i am trying to upgrade to 5.1.1
Are you using the restore through iTunes or update .. your should use update.

C:\Users\Your Account Name\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

Uhh, i followed every step and its still in recovery mode. im not sure when i put it in “DFU Mode”, on itunes it just says it is in recovery mode, not dfu. also when i click the fixrecovery43.exe app, it basically just flashes and i cant see a word on there. Please help me.
What is your device model and firmware version and what is it you are trying to do to begin with?
I am using Iphone 3. Not sure what the firmware version is, but im trying to get my iPhone 3 that was previously jailbroken + Unlocked out of the recovery mode. It wont accept my tmobile sim card. im assuming that the updating removed the jailbraking stuff.
I would recommend that you update/restore your device through iTunes to the latest iOS version
I think it is ios 5.1.1 already. Just need to activate it.
You will need to restore it if to the same iPSW 5.1.1 file that was downloaded by iTunes on your computer at the initial update if you want to get out of recovery mode.
I followed every step and its still in recovery mode. im not sure when i put it in “DFU Mode”, on itunes it just says it is in recovery mode, not dfu. also when i click the fixrecovery43.exe app, it basically just flashes and i cant see a word on there. Please help me.
I am trying to get an iPhone 3G on 4.2.1 out of recovery mode. IT was previously SAM then I tried to restore 4.2.1 and it got stuck in recovery mode. I heard that TinyUmbrella could help me get it out of recovery. But the CMD window just falshed up and then disappears.
Please advise. Thanks!
What is your modem firmware version (baseband)?
i did everything but at the end it had a white screen and went right back to recovery mode!!!! what do i do i have fw 5.1.1
Restore your device to 5.1.1 iOS that was downloaded by iTunes at the time of your first update iTunes usually download it somewhere in your computer:
C:\Users\Your Account Name\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
or
%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

We recommend that you update your iPhone to 5.1.1 and this will get you our of recovery mode then you can jailbreak it again.

AppleEmbeddedUSBArbitrator::_usbCableTypeNotificationGated : cableType has not changed
AppleBCMWLAN::handleIOKitBusyWatchdogTimeout(): Error, no succesful firmware download after 60000 ms!! Giving up…
Put your device in DFU mode, connect it to iTunes and update/restore your device to the latest iOS version.
after the cmd windows disappears, if i disconnect the device or not from the USB, it appears a message on the device that says:
AppleEmbeddedUSBArbitrator::_usbCableTypeNotificationGated : cableType has not changed
AppleBCMWLAN::handleIOKitBusyWatchdogTimeout(): Error, no succesful firmware download after 60000 ms!! Giving up…
(Those are the last 2 lines)
In most case updating your device to the latest iOS version will solve your issues.
hi, and thanks for the info. my iphone4 went into recovery mode today for no reason when I connected it to my home computer to back it up here for the first time. I have about 5000 photos of my kid on here, some of which are backed up on another (work) computer, but not nearly all of them as it’s been some time. I did what you listed on here, and I’m not a very tech savvy guy, but it seemed to go through as you said it would, except my phone is sitting here with a black screen and a ton of white text on it. I’ve tried it three times now, and this is what happens each time. should I just wait longer? (I’ve waited over 5 minutes to see if it changes and it doesn’t) any help is appreciated, as I’m kind of stuck in a rough spot here. thanks… (my phone is not jailbroken or anything, and I use windows on my home and work computer)
**update to my earlier post**
I let it sit for about 10 more minutes and the iphone screen went through a cycling of text, and then the itunes/recovery screen came back. I’m wondering if I screwed it up by trying to “reboot” it (holding down both buttons) after the first attempt and about 5 minutes of waiting (I had assumed at that point that it wasn’t working). any ideas? I really appreciate any help, as I’m stuck…and really want these photos of my daughter; but need my phone for the work week that starts tomorrow morning… thanks.
Try to connect your device to iTunes and see if you can back it up, then after you do that restore/update your device to the latest iOS.
Thanks… it worked like a charm
Great thanks for sharing
hey i have iphone 4 it was working fine bt now automatically it goes to black screen
when i connect to i tunes it says your iphone is in recovery mode i ve tryed everything bt its not workking it is still black like power of
can u plz help me what should i do?
Have you tried to update it to the latest iOS 5.1.1
I’m getting the message that Zlib1.dll is missing but I downloaded it and followed your steps…wat should I do?
that has been solved, now its in dfu mode but say ituneshelper.exe not found,
Launch fixrecovery43.exe and place your iDevice in DFU mode by using the instructions below:
Hold down the Home+Power button for 10 seconds.
After 10 seconds, release the Power button but keep holding the Home button.
Your iDevice should be in DFU mode. Now leave the rest on TinyUmbrella (Fix Recovery). Once you see Exiting libpois0n in DOS window, you may disconnect your iDevice from your computer as the rest of the code will run on your iDevice.
When I launch iTunes and plug my iPhone it appears a message saying that the iPhone is on recovery mode and needs to be restored. Then I put it in DFU mode and I launch fixrecovery.43 and says: ERROR: ituneshelper.exe not found. But the process continues in the DOS windowns but don’t work. What can I do?
Updating or restoring your device will get you out of recovery mode.
Hi any chance you know how to fix error 2001, the iPhone 4 is not unlocked or jailbrocken, it is stuck on dfu mode and asks me to restore from I-tunes which does start but then stops and gives me this error, the phone was water damaged but only a little bit, only two water indicators have been set of and they are not giving of their full covers.
Try this:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3773353?start=0&tstart=0
i downloaded as described and got to step 5 launch fixrecovery43.exe
but it does not launch the screen flashes up quick and i can see error itunes.exenot found what should i do from here
That’s normal. Run fixrecovery with iTunes open, and you’ll should see iTunes close.
Does this work on iPhone 2 when i tried updating the firmware and it got stuck in recovery mode(I still can contact other people), I tried restoring it using itunes and it didn’t work.
Try to restore it to the IPSW that was downloaded by iTunes on your computer
It didn’t work, how can i downgrade the phone to 2.0.2
You cannot downgrade you can only upgrade.
Hey Support Team. Everything works up until i try to put my iPhone in DFU mode, Please help me!
