iPhone Tips & Tricks #249: How To Change Your Device Name

The great thing about the purchase you make is that you can name and rename it any time that you like.  It is not just a generic piece of hardware you are holding. This is something that you have invested time and money in so it just makes sense that you can name your device whatever you like.  After you name it on the first restore and first load, you can actually rename it to something else.

To give whatever name you like for your iPhone, plug your iPhone into iTunes using the USB cable.  Then launch the iTunes program if it doesn’t already open on its own.  Find the device on the left side of the program and then click on the device name.  This will make the field editable.  You need to be not syncing at this time to make it so.  Type in the new name for your iDevice and it will be renamed after you sync it one more time.

This is a tip that works on all iPhone models running on any iOS firmware version.
